Corruption

Laben Sakale John comes from Hakwange village in the
Menyamya District of Morobe Province. His work is a reflection of his people, culture and personal experiences. It
addresses gender roles, family affairs, domestic violence, HIV
and AIDS, law and order, and politics in Papua New Guinea.
I have been thinking for a while about how PNG is not
progressing as it should. The theme for the art show has given me the opportunity to single out corruption as one of the major hinderances to our progress. Handshake and under the table deals which have root in just about all areas of government and business, from parliament to the police force and even in how defence force personnel are recruited. It is deeply
ingrained and involves so many big fish and little
tadpoles.
