Tom Deko is a renowned PNG

metal sculptor. He completed his

visual arts qualification in 1984

at the Faculty of Creative Arts at

UPNG and has exhibited across

the world. His pieces are held in

collections in Australia, Europe,

the UK and the Pacific.

The sculpture asks us to think about what is

the right size now and in the future of a

family in PNG? For many reasons, in the

past big families were necessary or

unavoidable. Child mortality, lack of

contraception, or just the need for many

hands to work the land. But our life is

changing and smaller families can work in

our interest.
